On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 7 IKM-Manning Juniors and Seniors participated in a volunteer day helping senior citizens with house and yard chores. This is the third year students have stepped up and responded to a MRHC Community Health Needs Assessment committee request. The committee first approached the school two years ago to see if student volunteers could assist senior citizens around the city of Manning with various tasks. The Community Health Needs Assessment committee chose the date, lined up the jobs helping senior citizens, and provided adult volunteers to supervise the student workers. Student response to the request was great with 42 juniors and seniors giving up an early out afternoon to work with the adult volunteers raking lawns, cleaning gutters, washing windows, moving heavy objects, and a variety of other tasks. Several volunteers also worked at the Heritage Park. The afternoon of community service gave IKM-Manning juniors and seniors a chance to interact with adults in the community and earn hours toward the Silver Cord program recognizing students for their community service.
