First quarter report cards will be mailed out today, Friday, October 22. With the report cards will be a letter indicating if any teachers are specifically requesting a conference with you during Parent-Teacher conferences. Please consider this message my personal invitation to each one of you to attend conferences, even if you don't get a specific request from one of your child's teachers. Historically our high school parent-teacher conferences have been poorly attended. That really is a too bad because parental involvement is a key to academic achievement for all students. Conferences are a great opportunity to get in to the school, see where your child is attending classes every day, and meet his/her teachers. I think sometimes parents think conferences are necessary only if their child is having problems at school, and that certainly is a good reason to attend conferences. But every student benefits from a postive relationship between parents and their teachers and conferences are a great opportunity to build that relationship. I know everyone has busy schedules but I hope you can find time to come see us on Thursday, October 28 or Thursday, November 4. Conferences will be from 4-8 p.m. each of those days. No appointments are necessary. Just drop in to see some or all of your child's teachers on those two days. I'll be in my office or around the building during conferences as well so I hope to see you then.
