October certainly has been an interesting month. It seems as though we’ve seen weather from all four seasons this month. The October to November transition signals a change in seasons at school as well. Fall sports will be ending and winter sports are just around the corner. Cross Country and Volleyball seasons have already come to a close. Congratulations to Coach Cast and his cross country squads on their fine seasons. The sport continues to grow and improve each year at IKM-Manning. Coaches Lage, Halbur, and Lahndorf also wrapped up another highly successful volleyball season, claiming yet another Western Valley Conference South Division title. Coach Hoogestraat’s cheerleaders are working hard and will soon take their high-flying act indoors to the hard court for basketball season. And as I write this article, the football team is still alive in the football playoffs, having already defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and South O’Brien in 1st and 2nd round action. The Wolves will next take on a highly rated Emmetsburg squad at home this Friday night with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
Many of the same kids who have made our athletic teams so successful this fall along with a host of others are also working hard on our musical, Alladin Jr. Directors Book and Rasmussen and the cast have been working hard in early morning and evening rehearsals in preparation for their two performances. I hope you all can attend either Saturday, November 3 at 7 p.m. or Sunday, November 4 at 2 p.m. It looks to be a very entertaining production.
Extracurricular participation is one of the strengths of our school. Students who get involved in these activities are more connected at school and tend to do better all around. High school is the perfect time for students to explore their interests. Encourage your child to get involved. Whether it be athletics, fine arts, FFA, or other activities, there are lots of opportunities for students to learn lessons outside of the classroom as well.
