- Increased accuracy when reporting a student's grade. There is no difference between the quarter grading system and semester grading system for the first quarter of the year. But as we move in to second quarter, when a student or parent/guardian looks at that student's grade they will see exactly what that student is getting for the semester at that point in time. No need to try and figure out how the second quarter grade and first quarter grade will average together.
- No false sense of security that comes from starting over the second quarter. A student who was failing at the end of the first quarter sometimes wouldn't have an appropriate level of concern about their semester grade if they were doing ok in the second quarter. They would forget about that failing quarter grade and not think about it again until the semester was nearly over. With semester grading the student always knows exactly where he/she stands.
- Colleges and community colleges typically use semester grading schemes so students are being prepared for post-high school studies.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, October 27 and 29. Conferences will be held from 4-8 p.m. each of those evenings. At the high school, conferences are unscheduled so feel free to drop in whenever it is convenient for you each of those nights. Parents of Juniors and Seniors will also want to be aware of two meetings during the Thursday night of conferences. At 6 p.m. there will be a Junior College Planning meeting for college-bound juniors and their parents. At 7 p.m. there will be a Senior Financial Aid meeting for parents to learn more about applying for and receiving financial aid to assist with sending a student to college. Both of these meetings will be held in the high school library.
There will be no school on Friday, October 30.
