IKM-Manning High School offers a variety of concurrent enrollment classes through partnerships with area community colleges. Some of the courses offered through DMACC include English Composition I & II, Western Civilizations I & II, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics, Finite Math, Speech, and vocational classes in Construction and Automotive Technology programs as well as C.N.A. Another vocational class, Survey of the Animal Industry, is offered through IWCC. Some classes are taught on our high school campus by local instructors or community college adjunct instructors while others are available online with students working independently, communicating with an instructor at an off campus location. And some students travel to the DMACC campus for part of the day to take classes. Regardless of the format, these concurrent enrollment classes allow students to earn both high school and community college credits simultaneously. Because these courses need to meet college-level expectations of rigor, students have to meet certain academic criteria to be eligible to enroll in the courses. During the first semester of this school year, 31 seniors and 8 juniors enrolled in at least one concurrent enrollment class. These students get a taste of college level work while still being in the supportive environment of living at home and attending high school and the courses are an excellent way to jump-start their postsecondary education.
