So, what do I hope to do with this blog? Well, I am not exactly sure. I think it could be a place to discuss timely school topics, like technology advancements. Or maybe I could use it to address important issues, like whole-grade sharing and possible reorganization. Certainly this blog becomes another good tool for communcating with students, parents, and community members and there is no such thing as too much good communication. So stay tuned. Hopefully there will be more to come.
Blogging is certainly a new experience for me. I am amazed at how quickly technology has changed since I began teaching just over 20 years ago. I remember being thrilled that the first computer I had in my classroom came with a new-fangled technology called a "mouse." I think that Apple IIGS computer had something like a 500K hard drive. I was sure I would never need more memory than that! Now we have hand-held technologies that far surpass the abilities and storage capacity of that 1989 state-of-the-art computer. The internet was a relatively new phenomenon when I began teaching and was largely unavailable to high school educators. Now high-speed access and wireless networks are the norm. In fact, I am writing this first post, sitting on my couch at home, on a laptop computer accessing my home wireless network. My how things change.
